Water Quality Testing

Do you want to know if the water is contaminated? I offer several tests for both homes with private wells as well as those on a public water system.  I can test for bacteria, standard metals, heavy metals, non-metals,  volatile organic compounds, pesticieds, PFAs (forever chemicals) and radon.

About Water Testing

  • The Standard Profile that is most requested for homes with private wells include: Test consists of Coliform & E.coli bacteria, Chlorine, Chloride, Fluoride, Nitrite-N, Nitrate-N, Sulfate, pH, Odor, Color, Turbidity, Calcium, Magnesium, Sodium, Total Hardness, Iron, Manganese, Copper plus Radon in water, Arsenic, Lead (flush), Uranium.

    The City Water Test includes lead, copper, lead flush, chlorine, and volatile organic compounds (forever chemicals) .

  • The risks include:

    • Health Risk (gastrointestinal illness kidney damage, blue baby syndrome) 

    • Financial Risk:  Corrosion of plumbing and fixtures, premature failure of water heaters and appliances, staining from iron and manganese, Scale buildup from hard water, costly filtration systems

  • Older homes with older wells. Private wells with poor or unknown water quality test history, buried well cap, cracked well cap or casing, shallow wells.  Homes near septic systems. Water systems near agricultural, industrial, municipal waste, and airports. Homes near bedrock (Fairfield, Litchfield, Windham, Tolland County).

  • Samples are collected on site, and transferred to a certified state laboratory for analysis.  Results are reported withing 2-3 business days.

  • People should test the water quality for any home built prior to the 1980's which are susceptible to lead and copper contamination.  Test for PFA Danbury, Newtown, New Milford, Woodbury, New Fairfield, Greenwich, Darien, Simsbury, Avon, Vernon, Brooklyn, Guilford, Manchester, Colchester, Cromwell which are known to have higher readings for PFA's.

     

  • There are many types of water treatment systems available including acid neutralizers, water softeners, UV systems, reverse osmosis, activated charcoal and sediment filters. One reason water testing is so important during the home-buying process is that treatment systems can range from a few thousand dollars to well over $10,000. Identifying water quality concerns before closing allows buyers to understand both the health implications and the potential cost of remediation.
